Dater Foundation Awards Eight Grants in Late November

Cincinnati, Ohio, December 16, 2023 – The Charles H. Dater Foundation awarded eight grants in early totaling $310,000, including a $30,000 award to Dragonfly Foundation for its Patient and Family Events and Activities program.
When a young patient at Cincinnati Children’s is diagnosed with cancer, Dragonfly stands ready to support the family.
The organization orchestrates events, activities, and family-oriented excursions that cater to the needs of immunocompromised patients and their families (at no cost to them), ensuring safety and comfort. These occasions provide children with a valuable experience of relief, happiness, light-heartedness, and a semblance of normalcy during their pediatric cancer treatment journey.
Grants made in late November:
Art Creates Us, $20,000. ProjectArt Cincinnati provides free, weekly afterschool classes at the Avondale and West End public library branches. Underserved students develop their artistic skills and knowledge as well as enhance self-esteem, academic engagement, and sense of belonging.
Bloc Ministries, $100,000. Program support for at-risk urban youth in the Price Hill area with a specific focus on the Youth Teaching Kitchen and the Immigrant Welcome Center.
Bon Secours Mercy Health Foundation, $25,000. The Mercy Serves program is a partnership with AmericaCorps that leverages the national service movement and places a diverse, energetic group in Mercy Health emergency departments to assist patients struggling with substance use disorders.
Childhood Food Solutions, $50,000. The Food Box Home Delivery Program serves the families of underserved students in the Lower and East Price Hill communities.
Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation, $25,000. Installment of a new scholarship management software system will streamline and add efficiency and transparency to the organization’s application, award and tracking process.
Crayons to Computers, $25,000. Hubbard’s Cupboards is a collaboration between Crayons and the Sam Hubbard Foundation allowing underserved students to access school supplies and healthy snacks on a “just in time” basis.
Dragonfly Foundation, $30,000. Support for pediatric cancer patients and their families visiting Cincinnati Children’s features activity programsevents and family oriented excursions. and gifting, including a 45-item Care Bag with hospital-approved personal care item for
Linton Chamber Music, $35,000. Peanut Butter and Jam Sessions is a series of Saturday morning concerts that present chamber music to pre-schoolers and their parents at locations throughout the region. The program also includes free Library & Community Concerts in inner-city neighborhoods, and an in-school programs in partnership with Cincinnati Preschool Promise,
The Dater Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area to carry out programs that benefit young people and focus in the areas of arts/culture, education, healthcare, social services and other community needs. The private foundation was established by fourth-generation Cincinnatian, businessman and philanthropist Charles Dater (1912-1993) to ensure that his resources would continue to fund worthwhile community programs after his death. The foundation has made more than 3,600 grants totaling over $73 million since its inception in 1985.
