Beds for Kids
New Life Furniture provides gently used furniture to people overcoming homelessness, domestic abuse, extreme poverty, or other devastating circumstances. Thousands of Greater Cincinnati’s children literally sleep and eat on bare floors because their families lack the financial and other resources to provide a suitable bed due to conditions of poverty. “Beds for Kids” is a grant-funded program that enables New Life Furniture Bank to buy new bed sets when donations of gently used beds are not available. The impact is immediate and long-term: Immediate in that children can sleep comfortably and wake up rested; long-term because a suitable mattress is essential for proper physical and mental development and avoidance of chronic illnesses. Based on an average cost of $155 per bed set, New Life Furniture Bank expects to buy at least 150 beds with the Dater Foundation’s grant. Since more than one child is often placed in a bed, these beds could improve the lives of 200 or more children.
