Roundabout Opera for Kids Outreach Tour
ROKCincy brings free, fully staged, kid-friendly operas along with an accompanying study guide meeting National Standards to the students and families of the Greater Cincinnati area. Using emerging professional singers, ROKCincy provides high quality performances followed by an engaging "question and answer" talk back session as a way to deepen the experience for both the students and the performers.
The goals of ROKCincy are three-fold, 1) to offer a way for young students to gain an appreciation for the performing arts, through a pre and post performance study guide meeting national standards, and by participating as focused audience members, 2) to offer artists the benefit of a service learning opportunity and practical performing experience, and 3) to set a working, measurable model for the successful implementation and development of outreach programs as the first program affiliate to the successful ROK program in Bloomington, Indiana.
ROKCincy's 2018-2019 tour achieved its goal by giving 13 professional musicians the opportunity to perform in a fully staged production of "Little Red Riding Hood." ROKCincy performed at 46 schools, after school programs, libraries and community centers reaching a diverse audience of roughly 8,500 young people and families. With the success of the past seven years, ROK Cincy is a sustainable model for future ROK affiliates.
