After-school STEM clubs

The Greater Cincinnati STEM Collaborative (GCSC) was launched in July 2011 by Procter & Gamble and the Strive Partnership in response to the accelerating demand for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics) jobs in Greater Cincinnati. GCSC’s focus is to develop and expand new, effective, partnership-based models for engaging students and increasing their interest in STEM learning and careers.

GCSC’s 3d Printers and STEM Bicycle Clubs expand students’ STEM skills and interest in STEM careers. In 3d Printers Clubs students learn the engineering and problem-solving design processes, while working with 3D printers and modeling software. In STEM Bicycle Clubs, students make micro adjustments to, and reverse engineer, a new bicycle they get to keep. STEM professionals from local businesses volunteer as coaches and mentors.

GCSC partners most with high-need, under-resourced schools in this program and encourages club teachers-leaders to include students under-represented in STEM fields (low-income students, girls, and students of color).

More than 1,100 students, primarily in middle school, are participating in 3d Printers and STEM Bicycle Clubs in 2019-2020, including 115 as a direct result of the Dater Foundation’s support.
