UpSpring Summer 360°
UpSpring’s mission is to empower children experiencing homelessness in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky by providing opportunities through education and enrichment. Its vision is to positively transform communities by breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty. As the region's only non-profit exclusively serving the educational needs of homeless children and youth, UpSpring provides these students with the consistency needed to achieve academic success and become well-rounded, active participants in their community. A grant from the Dater Foundation supported UpSpring Summer 360°, a seven-week summer day-camp that provides structure for continued learning and academic skill-set retention. The curriculum addresses the “summer slide” through math, literacy, and social-emotional intelligence, with an emphasis on nurturing the whole child through trauma-informed care. Over 70% of attendees increased or retained their math and/or literacy skills over the summer, and over 90% of students had significant improvements in their sense of hope, self-esteem, and stability.
