Santa Maria's mission is to be a catalyst and advocate for Greater Price Hill families to attain their educational, financial, and health goals. For more than 122 years Santa Maria has helped families help themselves.
A grant from the Dater Foundation supported diverse activities within the Youth Development Program in Lower Price Hill. Activities included social-emotional skills groups, 39 field trips, gardening opportunities, camping outings, community service projects, and other community building events.
Thirty-three families participating in the youth/family advocacy part of the program which not only identified factors in the family that were causing problems with their children’s academic and social success, but were linked to services that helped them address those identified issues. All youth benefiting from the Dater Foundation funding participated in community service projects, most of them multiple times. In addition, 229 were involved in very structured or semi-structured leadership groups facilitated at Oyler School or the Lower Price Hill Santa Maria Center. Santa Maria assisted 22 youth and four of their parents in attaining memberships (including pool passes) to the new Price Hill Recreation Center.
