PreventionFIRST! is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1996, as a comprehensive effort to address youth substance abuse in the tri-state region where Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky converge. The Foundation supports PreventionFIRST! to be the driving force behind effective drug prevention. PreventionFIRST! depends on the generosity of foundations, individual donors, and local businesses to fund strategies and programs designed to decrease the likelihood of teens and youth experimenting with drugs. In this past year, PreventionFIRST! trained teachers, counselors, school nurses, school resource offices, and administrators on effective prevention strategies in a school setting. Over 200 youth leaders attended a "Youth Summit" where students were taught leadership skills, peer to peer prevention, and are offered resources to take back to their schools and communities. Parents were provided training on the PreventionFIRST! "Strong Voices, Smart Choices" Parents Guide. Close to 5,000 of these guides were distributed in the community.
