Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Reading Program for teachers
Mayerson Academy’s Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Reading Program is a highly accredited program with IMSLEC (International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council) and IDA (International Dyslexia Association). Orton-Gillingham structured language instruction has shown marked increases in student achievement especially for students with dyslexia. Mayerson Academy’s program is about training teachers on the OG instructional strategies and the tools to accomplish the work with students. A grant from the Dater Foundation allowed Mayerson to mitigate the cost of the course for teachers to pursue this training. The course serves teachers in the Greater Cincinnati area, primarily those schools in low income areas. A good reading foundation is an essential factor that can help students living in poverty become productive citizens. In the last five years Mayerson Academy has been able to train over 380 teachers in its basic course and over 160 of those teachers went on to become certified OG teachers/practitioners. The number of students these teachers’ impact is exponential.
