PowerPack Childhood Hunger Prevention Program
Freestore Foodbank serves food insecure families in Greater Cincinnati, improving lives by eliminating hunger in partnership with the community. The Power Pack program, its largest childhood hunger prevention effort, offers weekend bags of healthy food assistance to children in need. Through the support of a Dater grant and the local community, this program has continued to grow to help meet the needs of the more than 80,000 food insecure children in the tristate region. During the 2018-19 school year, over 5,200 children received assistance each weekend at 101 school sites, providing 200,382 weekend bags of vital nutrition.
Here are just a few stories of the lives changed by support of the Freestore's mission --

Below are some comments from Freestore distribution sites --
"We have one particular family that is having a difficult time making ends meet right now. The grandmother is the only one who is able to work and she is supporting her mother, her aunt, her brother, and multiple (4+) grandchildren. The Power Packs are helping her oldest grandchild (5th grade) when the grandmother is at work. Without this food the family would be going hungry.”
“Students enjoy the types of food provided. Power Packs become a security blanket for many students. They rely on it because it is one constant in their lives.”
“They are always excited on Friday afternoon. Some of the children even ask me about the power pack Friday mornings telling me about the good stuff in them.”
“The children are always looking forward for their Power Packs. Some children are so hungry that they light up when they know that they get them on Friday.”
“The variety of food and the dependability of the Power Packs provides our children with necessary nutrition when their home lives may be chaotic.”
