Job Readiness Program
The Cincinnati Works program goes beyond just getting a person a job to combat the roots of generational poverty. An integrated approach includes job readiness, personal stability, job retention, and career advancement. Pre- and post-employment services combined with long-term 1:1 support help families move from poverty to economic self-sufficiency. The network's first approach is centered on building fundamental workplace and career management skills along with helping manage the personal and life barriers that often derail Members (clients). After stabilizing them on the job, collaboration with Members takes place to define a longer term career path that builds on the basic skills they have learned. Local employer needs and growth occupations are also considered. In addition to serving the "standard population," Cincinnati Works has specialized programs for those facing unique challenges: Phoenix (gang members) and Next Step (emancipating foster youth).
2019 saw an increase in the percentage of Members engaging with financial coaching. This was both a year over year increase and a number above our goal for the year. The organization strongly believes that learning to manage the family finances is a key step in breaking the cycle of generational poverty.
