Brighter Futures for Homeless Children
Bethany House provides comprehensive services to homeless families with an emphasis on helping the children in shelter to be the last in their families to ever experience being without a home. The children’s program – which serves about 800 children each year -- opens eyes to alternatives, to expanding beyond the limits of neighborhoods and familial experiences. Every child is enrolled in an appropriate school or quality day care. While in shelter, parents are taught the basics of normal growth and development, principles of positive parenting, and how to advocate for their child with the schools. With the support of the Dater Foundation, Bethany House is able to provide age-appropriate therapeutic groups geared toward development of self-esteem, stress reduction and improvement of coping skills as well as participation in field trips and activities to promote family bonding and socialization.
