Effective July 28, 2026, the Dater Foundation’s online grantmaking will migrate to a new Blackbaud platform. Blackbaud is one of the nation’s leading providers of software solutions to non-profit organizations.
Grant seekers who have an existing Blackbaud ID will be able to sign in and use their ID to access the Dater Foundation’s Grant Application and Grant Evaluation Report/Requirement forms.
Others will need to sign in and get a Blackbaud ID.
Previously submitted Grant Application and Evaluation/Requirement content will NOT be available on the new platform.
Online Grant Application Process
The Dater Foundation launched an online, web-based grant application process in 2010. Reaction from grant seekers has been that the process is easier and more time efficient for them.
Applicants are directed to fill in specific fields and upload certain attachments. They may also upload additional attachments if they choose.

Many grant-seeking organizations ask to meet in person or request an extended telephone conversation to discuss a possible grant application. Our best advice is to spend time with the Foundation’s web site. See the kinds of organizations to whom we have made grants and see the kinds of grants we have made.

The Dater Foundation makes about 150 grants annually to non-profit 501c(3) organizations for programs or projects that generally focus on providing benefit to children, teens and young adults. While most grants range from $20,000 to over $100,000, the average and median grant are about $30,000. The Foundation’s board of directors meets monthly to review grant applications. In general, only one grant is made to an organization during the Foundation’s fiscal year (September to August).
If after reviewing information on the Foundation’s web site and feeling it is a good use of time and resources, organizations are welcome to submit an online application. No invitation is required.
Grant Evaluation Reports (“Requirement”) for programs/projects funded by the Foundation are also being handled through the web-based online system.
Grant recipients will be notified and sent a web site link by the Foundation about six months after getting their grant award and in advance of their Grant Evaluation Report's due date. A grant recipient wanting to submit a Grant Evaluation Report/Requirement prior to being contacted by the Foundation may use the form in the Blackbaud database or contact Beth Broomall at the Foundation office bb@DaterFoundation.org.
