Community Outreach Through Art

Grant Application:

The Baker Hunt Community Outreach through Art Program is designed to take art making into the community to provide positive outlets and behaviors to our youth.  Our main focus has been taking art into the schools in our community, many of whom have lost their art programs due to budget restriction.  We do this through art clubs and camps and community events. Baker Hunt is requesting that the Charles H. Dater Foundation again join us in partnership to provide art programming to youth in the community.

With the help of the Dater Foundation, Baker Hunt has increased its community outreach programming art experiences from 3,735 at the end of 2018 to 9,924 at the end of 2019.   In 2020, with the help of Facebook Live we hit 38,875 interactions during a pandemic.  In 2021 We provided art access to all of Covington Independent schools through videos and on-line classes, our art interactions will be in excess of 40,000 possible interactions.  We are now able to get back into the schools and will be working with 5 Covington Schools, 3 Newport Schools, Ludlow, Sayler Park and two classes of Redwood students.  This should provide 12,890 live student art interactions in 2021.  The budget for this program is $89,080.

Grant Evaluation Report:

With 4 months remaining to complete our programming, we are confident we will stay within budget and come very close to our interaction goal.

We have kept within our budget, and plan to hit our interaction goal. We are still not in Redwood or Ninth District in person and this has impacted the expense side in a positive way as it is less costly. In the fall of 2022, we anticipate being in person in all our schools. We had planned on starting the program in the schools in August, but are just now starting in September. This impacts costs positively and interactions negatively. Summer camp attendance was impacted in one of our camps by a cancellation of two of our five hour days due to a water main issue and double booking. Reducing camp interactions by about 400. Newport High School after school art club did not get participation. We shifted to an afterschool cooking club. The attendance was small but the program was well received and should continue in the fall. This reduced interactions by about 160.

The best goal we achieved was providing a safe and positive place for kids to create and have fun. The schools rely on us as part of the way they keep kids positively engaged after school and they are very appreciative. We often hear, "What a treasure Baker Hunt is!" or "The kids love Mr. Trent in the art club." or " The kids can't wait for Miss Madyson to get here!" We have our partnership with the Dater Foundation to thank for that! The teachers acknowledge the foundation at the beginning of each art club!
