The Community Meal Center in Hamilton, Ohio provides a safe, inviting, dignified havens where anyone in need can enjoy a hot, homemade meal at our service center and live in an affordable rental home. The focus is meeting some of the social, physical and spiritual needs of the homeless, working poor and hungry people in our community.
In 2020, CMC expanded her mission to offer safe, affordable and dignified shelter, especially for individuals and families, who have experienced adverse life circumstances and homelessness. The increasing rate of poverty and homelessness we see with our guests has inspired CMC to pursue this new initiative, the Hospitality Network (HN) initially called Safe Havens Hospitality Network. In 2020, the HN supported four women living in our Catherine's Hospitality House. CMC partnered with a local church, leasing their rental house for one year. Simultaneously, a generous donor gifted an 1881 Italianate duplex house to CMC/HN. Currently, many volunteers have donated their time and money to restore this home to its original beauty. This duplex is affordable, decent, rental property for families coming out of adverse circumstances. In July of 2021, phase one of the renovation was completed. Currently the first three bedroom apartment is occupied by a formerly homeless family, a single mother with two children. CMC is partnering with organizations who serve the homeless population so to provide a missing component, affordable housing, in the continuum of care of poor and homeless families. The rental income of these two units will be used to purchase food and supplies to sustain our food ministry and support tenants in our housing program for years to come. Our food ministry continues to have many partnering agencies providing various services such as musical entertainment, Job & Family Services, free HIV/Hep C testing, Narcan training and access to mental health services, to name a few.
