Elephant Trek will be a state-of-the-art habitat offering an engaging, family-centered visitor experience -- putting the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden on the leading edge of elephant care and management for years to come. Five times the size of our current elephant space, the largest habitat project in our history will ensure that elephants continue as a visitor favorite for all ages. Elephant Trek will feature space for elephants to thrive, better visitor engagement opportunities, and a multi-generational herd more akin to how elephants live in the wild, to encourage breeding.
Goals/Objectives:
1. Inspire guests with nature by sharing animals in a natural setting to build understanding & empathy.
2. Transform the physical landscape by reimagining a parking lot into Asian themed-gardens, facilities and a 5-acre elephant habitat.
3. Design the habitat utilizing leading-edge research to ensure top-notch animal care.
4. Save natural resources through storm water management, alternative energies, and large-scale composting.
5. Give every individual equitable access to pathways & facilities.
Grant Evaluation Report:
Since the campaign’s launch in 2018, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden has felt the encouragement and enthusiasm of our community as we work toward transforming the Zoo’s facilities and habitats for the next generation. More Home to Roam is:

• Moving us closer to Net Zero Energy, Water & Waste
Because of the incredible generosity from the Zoo’s donor community, in the fall of 2022 we reached our BIG goal of $160,000,000 – three years ahead of schedule!
• 8,208 Gifts
• 3,955 Donors
• 14 New and enhanced Animal Habitats
• 13 New Visitor Experience Features
• 1,000,000 gallons of stormwater capture capacity for recycling & reuse
While we have achieved our stated goal of $160 million for the campaign, we will continue raising funds through 2023 to ensure that the remaining campaign projects have sufficient funding to cover the inevitable cost increases anticipated over the next three years as we complete construction on the remaining projects.
