WVXU’s Democracy & Me (www.democracyandme.org) empowers students, supports teachers, and helps build citizens. The educational outreach program for young adults began in 2015 to help students understand their role as citizens – and the role journalism plays in our democracy.
Goals/Objectives:
Hire and train a new Outreach Education Program Coordinator, Digital Platforms Manager, Social Media Coordinator and Event and Volunteer Coordinator
Hire a Democracy & Me Intern
Engage with local schools for programs in schools and in our studios

Grant Evaluation Report:
After years of development and testing Democracy & Me has come into its own. Our fulltime advocate for the program is Kahvah Whittaker and she has very quickly connected with area schools to get the program to students so we are not relying solely on on-air spots or emails for distribution. She started networking in September and already has 5 schools working with her on projects. Kahvah works closely with our new Events Coordinator Liz Asgian and they are adding new events to the schedule after only a few months of working together.
Dr. Childs is a wonderful contributor who is creating new blog material almost once a week. He also strongly advocates for the program when he's presenting at teacher's meetings in the area. Our new Social Media Coordinator Brittany Mayti joined the staff within the past few months and she is already learning about the program. She's eager to test new ideas and share results (see attachment D&Me Dater News 2022.)
