CABVI's Music Therapy Program for Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired

Grant Application:

CABVI would like to request a grant in the amount of $35,000 to provide partial salary support for two full-time Board Certified Music therapists who will provide instruction to at least 70 children who are blind or visually impaired.

Traditional music classes are often not fully accessible to children who are blind or visually impaired. Children with vision loss need opportunities to express themselves in creative ways and develop musical skills that will help them prepare for community participation in choirs, bands, or orchestras.

Music therapy provides an opportunity for self-exploration, growth, and development of positive self-image. Additionally, music groups provide social and emotional support for children and their families.

Music groups and music therapy provide opportunities for children to interact with peers and celebrate their unique talents.

CABVI's music program is designed to support the development of children with severe vision loss as well as to encourage creative expression and provide a source of emotional support for children and their families.

Grant Evaluation Report:

CABVI's 2022 Music Program was very successful as clients gradually returned to the agency for individual and group music sessions. We also had new
music program students coming in who had been on hold during the pandemic. CABVI is pleased to report that we were able to serve 114 individuals in 2022. (Approx. 100 of these were young people.)
