Rainbow Choice Food Pantry
Grant Application:
Funding is requested to support CAIN’s Rainbow Choice Food Pantry which provides healthy and nutritious food, personal care items, household cleaning items, diapers, and other necessities to anyone who needs it in the greater Cincinnati area. Open three times per week, the pantry is an oasis in the 45223 food desert, and surrounding areas. CAIN is a trusted and vital resource for residents who are low-income, under-resourced, food-insecure at or below 200% of the poverty level and struggling to make ends meet.
CAIN has been a leader in tracking and compiling demographic information. Our first data tracking system, VESTA, served as a model for other local food pantries. In April of this year, CAIN switched to Oasis to track and manage services. Oasis helps track and evaluate client services, case management, referrals, financial support, and other information that helps CAIN evaluate the effectiveness of its services. Oasis allows for robust data reporting and we are currently developing a data dashboard to communicate community impact with our board, funders and the community. Goals for 2022 include:
Provide food and basic necessities to 2000 Unduplicated households ???
Provide 8000 pantry visits
Serve 12,000 individuals
Grant Evaluation Report:
In 2022 we saw a 48% increase in pantry visits and only a 7% increase in food donations. We expect this increased number of guests to continue. Our guests are diverse in race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, languages spoken at home, age, veteran status, ability, family structure and lived experience.? BIPOC people make up 75% of our guests including a growing community of Spanish-speaking families.? They have unique needs that are not currently being met in their neighborhoods or the surrounding area.?Based on our 2022 data, The Choice Food Pantry guests are 42% Black/African American, 30% Hispanic, 18% white, 3% Multiracial and 7% other.? 42% of those served are children, 46% adults and 12% are seniors.
