General Operating Support, including Horses on the Hill Urban Equine program
Grant Application:
Horses on the Hill (HOTH) is an innovative urban equine program that will launch early next year. This grant will fund final stages of construction of the Equine Center, which is already underway. (Due to COVID-related shortages, project costs increased 20% over budget.)
HOTH will serve low-income students primarily, as well as some at-risk adults living in or near Price Hill. All equine-assisted activities or mounted programs are free; with the exception of some equine therapy for individuals that can be billable to insurance or Medicaid.
The Center is located on 7.5 acres in Price Hill. Construction project includes building the barn, stables, indoor riding arena, classroom, office, restrooms, tack room and fencing. We anticipate opening mid-February 2022 using the indoor area, and growing throughout the year to serve 300 urban students and 50 adults weekly. A licensed professional equine instructor and a therapist will instruct or coach all activities.
Grant Evaluation Report:
BLOC is excited to offer the 1st in our area equine center tailored to needs of urban children, adults and families. While the delays have been unfortunate and unexpected, we have secured strong partners who are staying with us through this interval. We have successfully applied to be a Community Outreach Organization with the United States Equestrian Foundation, and are eager to get programs rolling and call on local federation members to give us added guidance.
