Kids Get Arthritis Too
Grant Application:
The Arthritis Foundation has supported children and families impacted by Juvenile Arthritis (JA) for many years through various programs designed to help them connect with others facing similar circumstances. JA programs are structured to be a fun and educational opportunity to learn more about the management of JA. Our programs help participants understand a JA diagnosis and treatment, develop peer-to-peer support, increase independence and self-confidence, discover interests, and develop the skills they need to be leaders, advocates, and champions in their everyday lives. We recognize that juvenile arthritis impacts patients, caregivers, and families in many different ways. In that spirit, our JA Activities are designed to incorporate components that focus on whole-child and whole-family wellbeing, connection, and growth.
Grant Evaluation Report:
The "Kids Get Arthritis Too!" program and its many components provided opportunities for:
- JA parents to obtain needed resources and community with other JA parents;
- JA children and youth to have desired community and friendships with other JA children and youth;
- The support of the physicians and staff of the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center was invaluable to the families at our events;
- The Arthritis Foundation was able to connect with, and provide resources to, many new families who had not previously accessed the local resources available through the Arthritis Foundation in Greater Cincinnati; for example, at the Spring JA Family Day Camp, 27 of the 30 families who registered were new contacts for the Arthritis Foundation, and an ongoing dialogue was started that day with those families accessing Arthritis Foundation resources each month thereafter.
- Based on the JA families' feedback, we plan to add additional JA family events in the 2023-2024 year.
