Beyond the Classroom
Beyond the Classroom (BTC), first implemented at Dater Montessori in 2018-2019, integrates mental health and support services directly into the school. The program uses a holistic “air traffic control” model to coordinate services with school staff and parents, and provide all interested families access to BAPC’s trauma informed children’s mental health and parental peer support services. This coordination also connects families to resources for basic needs, alleviating common barriers to a child’s academic success.
When schools closed abruptly in March 2020 due to COVID-19, BAPC quickly adjusted and delivered therapy via telehealth. As BAPC plans for the 2020-2021 school year in a rapidly changing environment, it is prepared to provide face-to-face, telehealth or hybrid services to continue to provide these critical supports to families.
Though the delivery method has changed, BTC is still pursuing its goal to ensure the whole family has what it needs for students to succeed in school.
