Saturday Clubs for Children and Young Adults with Disabilities

Stepping Stones' mission is to increase independence, improve lives, and promote inclusion for children and adults with disabilities.

Founded in 1963 as Greater Cincinnati’s first summer day camp for children with any kind of disability, Stepping Stones has expanded and adapted to meet the changing needs of the community. The organization strives to fill the gaps and unmet needs for services to children, teens and adults with a range of developmental disabilities, including autism/sensory needs, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, seizure disorders and intellectual disabilities. About 1,100 individuals from ages six to 75+ benefit each year. More than 85% of participants receive government or other financial assistance.

Saturday Kids Club and Saturday Young Adults Club meet two Saturdays a month during the school year to provide extracurricular activities for about 145 young people who have difficulty succeeding in typical after-school activities due to their disabilities. Thanks to grants from the Dater Foundation and other funders, Saturday Clubs was able to provide young people with disabilities safe social and recreational experience during the pandemic. The program is designed to create experiences that build confidence, physical fitness, and social-interaction skills. Just as importantly, the program offers caregivers a much-needed respite from the rigors of providing constant care.
