Teaching Tomorrow’s Audience Today

Since its creation in 1976, School House Symphony has been presenting imaginative multicultural music education programs to pre-school and elementary age children throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. These programs feature performances and discussions of music from different cultures and periods of time, including folk, jazz, classical, and popular music.  The 2019-20 season was interrupted in March ’20 due to the pandemic.  School House shut completely down as schools closed or went to online learning. Thanks to continuing support from the Dater Foundation programming resumed with virtual concerts for schools and loyal musicians were able to work into the fall of 2020. In addition, Dater funding was used to provide 16 performances, free of charge, at the 8 Cincinnati CISE schools.  Many other underserved schools in the Greater Cincinnati area also received performances at no cost to them.

Some comments from teachers ...

“The children have never been exposed to something like this.  They enjoyed it so much they asked me if we could have them come back next year.  I told them I hope so. We are an ACUE school (Alliance for Catholic Urban Education) and cannot easily afford these services you provide.  So it was a real treat for us to have the School House Symphony.”

"School House Symphony has been coming to our childcare center for several years. Our children are pre-school age and the performers do a great job of engaging these young children and educating them. The cost is very reasonable and the quality of the performance is outstanding."

"Perfectly tailored for our 3-6 year students. Not too short, not too long. Some familiar pieces and not so familiar - nice balance."
