CASA University

ProKids exists because of the nearly 4,000 children in Greater Cincinnati who have suffered such severe abuse and neglect that they have been placed into Hamilton County’s child protection system, most into foster care. ProKids vision is a safe, permanent, and nurturing home for every child.

In 2020, ProKids received a grant from the Dater Foundation in support of CASA University, a volunteer recruitment and training program. Through CASA University, ProKids recruits and trains community members to become Court Appointed Special Advocates, known as CASA Volunteers, to passionately and persuasively advocate on behalf of the best interest of abused and neglected children. These dedicated CASA Volunteers ensure that each child receives the services and support they need to heal from their traumas, and, ultimately, guide them into a safe, permanent, and nurturing home where they can thrive.

In a year of unprecedented challenges, ProKids was able to increase the number of children served and maintain outstanding child-centered outcomes. Overall, in 2020, ProKids Advocacy Teams, including 311 CASA Volunteers, advocated on behalf of the best interest of a record breaking 1,095 abused and neglected children … moreover, 99% of children were safe from abuse and neglect and 94% of children were guided into a safe, permanent, and nurturing home.
