Homework Helpers, 2019-20

The Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library is one of the oldest, largest and busiest library systems in the United States.  The majority of the Library’s funding comes from public monies to support operations, with The Library Foundation working with the Library to offer services and meet community needs that are outside of tax support.

The Library’s Homework Helper program is funded through The Library Foundation; it provides free help to students in Kindergarten through eighth grade and assists students with homework on any subject in 20+ Library locations.  Helpers are available during the school year to students as skilled aides and mentors.  Thanks to the support of the Dater Foundation, the Library provided nearly 9,000 student sessions to children during the 2019-20 school year (through March 15, 2020).  The average session was 47 minutes per student, who was nine and a half years old and in the 4th grade.  Subject specific help was provided in all areas, with the most requested subjects being Math and Language Arts.
