LAMposium in Your Living Room

The LAM Foundation was founded in 1995 by a Cincinnati mother whose daughter was diagnosed with a rare lung disease, lymphangioleiomyomatosis - LAM for short. In her quest for answers, she recruited a UC pulmonologist to help. Together, they launched a grassroots effort, bringing together patients and clinicians to address this disease for the first time. Since then, The LAM Foundation has emerged as the global leader in the fight against LAM, setting an example as “a model for patient advocacy” by The New England Journal of Medicine. In 2015, a treatment was confirmed through a UC clinical trial that has improved the lives of many with LAM.  A search for a cure continues.  The Dater Foundation grant allowed programming to go virtual during the time of COVID.   A series of five webinars, LAMposium in Your Living Room, allowed health-compromised patients to participate from their homes. These programs highlighted the latest research findings, treatments, and wellness information while allowing interaction among patients.  More than 1,500 participants benefited from the programming, live or recorded. The results and feedback have been so outstanding that this format of programming will continue into the future.
