Making More Mathletes

iSPACE is a 501(c)(3) that provides the Greater Cincinnati community with innovative and effective STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs designed to ignite imaginations and inspire students to pursue STEM careers. The support of the Dater Foundation enabled iSPACE to provide its Making More Mathletes program during the 2020-2021 school year. The Making More Mathletes program aims to lay a foundation early while students are still very young and have yet to lose interest in STEM for the lynchpin of STEM, math. Math is critical to all STEM disciplines and acts as a gateway to STEM fields. iSPACE incorporates experiential, meaningful, and applied contexts using LEGO elements for the second and fourth grades students served to improve mathematics literacy. A classroom teacher commented: “Not only am I seeing students excel at math through this hands-on program, but I am able to learn more about my students and think of ways to improve my teaching to meet student’s needs. I have seen students making connections to the iSPACE curriculum across other subjects as I am teaching - something that gives them a concrete visual, especially when it comes to more abstract math lessons.”
