Child Enrichment Program for Homeless Children

2020 was a year of challenges for everyone. The mass population of people realized that life, health, and economic security are fragile. This was especially true for families experiencing poverty. People who barely survive paycheck to paycheck and have no savings. Due to the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of families seeking assistance for food and housing greatly increased. Families experienced job loss, reduced hours, and loss of childcare options. More than ever, families experiencing homelessness needed a helping hand, shoulder to lean on, and a place to feel safe in their time of need.

Despite the challenges, Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Cincinnati (IHNGC), continued its mission to provide homeless families emergency shelter and hospitality through interfaith communities and to work with families to find and retain stable housing. Grants from the Dater Foundation (this one for IHNGC's basic program and another Special Covid-19 Relief grant) supported families experiencing homelessness in Emergency Shelter and as well as COVID relief efforts for families in IHNGC housing and aftercare programs. In 2020, IHNGC programs provided services to over 360 families and the Emergency Family Shelter successfully secured positive housing for 92% of families who exited the program.
