Power Pack Weekend Feeding Program

Freestore Foodbank works in partnership with the community to improve lives by eliminating hunger for families in Greater Cincinnati. The Power Pack program, the organization’s largest childhood hunger prevention effort, offers weekend bags of healthy assistance to food insecure children, allowing teachers to identify the need and provide supplemental food each Friday. Through this grant and other community support, over 100 Power Pack sites provided essential nutrition for children in the tristate region, helping to support the more than 70,000 food insecure children locally. Throughout the 2019-20 school year, more than 7,000 children received these packs and for the first time sites that were able continued to distribute during the summer months. During this time of high need caused by COVID-19, Power Packs were also supplemented by larger emergency boxes of assistance for the whole family.

Some comments --

“During the COVID shut down last March, the Freestore even pivoted and delivered food to one of our local trailer park offices. Knowing that our families had access to food during one of the most difficult times in my educational career was truly a blessing! I can never thank you enough.”

“Have you ever seen a child hug a bag of food? It will change your perspective on life. One student who was severely abused and unable to talk now says, "Thank you for my pack pack." He cannot say the word 'power.' He loves to receive this weekly!”

“There are kids who go home to parents who work and have difficult schedules and the power packs ensure that those children will have accessible food over the weekend. It is nice for families to have that added bag a week that helps them get through the weekend.”
