After-School Program

EDGE Teen Center’s vision is that all teens will be confident in who they are, equipped to be successful in high school and beyond, and possess the resiliency needed to navigate life’s challenges. A grant from the Dater Foundation supported EDGE’s after-school program – two centers for high school students in Butler County where teens take part in programs focused on: Healthy Living, Academic Success, Community Service and Life Skills. Nearly 780 teens in grades 9-12 took part in small groups, interactive activities facilitated by community professionals, and community service outings. They received guidance, support and services to ensure they graduate from high school with the skills and strategies they need to help them reach the next step: college, vocational training, armed services or employment. Surveys showed 97% of teens felt better equipped to manage daily life stressors, and 79% reported increased knowledge about post-secondary options available to them. EDGE quickly pivoted to offer online activities and small groups during three months that the center closed during the pandemic, and staff maintained mentoring relationships virtually until the center could re-open.
