Early Matters New Family Support
Since 1981, a successful strategy of growth has enabled the DSAGC to support over 1,400 individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and their communities within the Greater Cincinnati community. The DSAGC is nationally recognized as one of the leading Down Syndrome Associations in the country. A grant from the Dater Foundation helped fund the New Family Support Program. This program provides families of newly diagnosed babies with Down syndrome comprehensive counseling, personal visits, and resources for parents and extended family members. In 2020, twenty new families were welcomed by the DSAGC. The Early Matters Coordinator met with each family in the hospital or the home setting and provided resources, gifts, and most importantly, reassurance and support. 91% of these families reported that this support was “very beneficial” as they began to raise their baby.
