General Operating Support for Meal Program

The Community Meal Center in Hamilton, Ohio provides a safe, inviting, dignified haven where anyone in need can enjoy a hot, homemade meal. The focus is meeting some of the social, physical and spiritual needs of the homeless, working poor and hungry people in our community.  Founded in 2001, the Center serves an average of 300 meals to 100 guests on Monday and Friday evenings at two locations, Zion Lutheran Church and Power Source Church, to guests who may have as many helpings as they want. On Fridays, guests experience volunteer entertainers contributing their musical talents to the evening experience as well as various services including emergency food, clothing, social services and nurses for free HIV testing and Narcan education/distribution. For volunteer opportunities, CMC partners with various schools and has a student servant leadership training program in which many high schools and college students meet their service-learning requirements (see photo below). Our volunteer force of servers and cooks is made up of scout troops, college students, high school students, grade school students, faith communities and often dinner guests of the Center. In recent years, adult participants from the Easter Seals Developmentally Disabled Day Care Hub in Hamilton have volunteered in setting up the CMC dining room for service.  This activity has enabled these adults to learn life skills and master tasks for potential future employment. CMC continues to share harvested food from local restaurants, healthcare facilities and Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry with many other local free meal programs.

The Community Meal Center is glad to have a viable model, working together with many community partners to serve those in need.  The Community Meal Center is a community of unity!
