Classics for Kids

Cincinnati Public Radio is committed to engaging the next generation of classical music listeners through Classics for Kids.  The program launched almost 25 years ago and now has welcomed more than 3.9 million users (1 year period) in almost every state in America and in dozens of countries around the world. Through the on-air program on WGUC (Saturdays at 10a and Sundays at 6p), lesson plans and games on www.classicsforkids.com, podcasts, and partnerships with other no profits, WGUC introduces tens of thousands of children to classical music every year.

The program continues to grow every year, but since the onset of the pandemic, the response to Classics for Kids has been incredible with an average of 330,443 unique users every month - and a total of 3,965,323 unique visitors. The web site pageviews have grown incredibly with 21,575,826 vs. 5,768,292 during the same period in the previous year!

This year Classics for Kids dramatically increased the diversity represented in its programming and on the website/materials. CFK produced and broadcast four new radio programs/podcast for Black composer William Grant Still, The Afro-American Symphony, Paul Laurance Dunbar’s Poetry, and Historic Black Composers. And there are five new programs focusing on Spanish and Latin American composers are currently in production.
