Teaching Tomorrow’s Audience Today

Since its creation in 1976, School House Symphony has been presenting imaginative multicultural music education programs to pre-school and elementary age children throughout the Greater Cincinnati.  These programs feature performances and discussions of music from different cultures and periods of time, including folk, jazz, classical, and popular music.  SHS presents approximately 300 performances at over 90 different schools during the academic year which runs from September through May.  SHS performs in both public and private schools throughout the tristate, presenting a subscription series of concerts throughout the year with a total attendance of approximately 20,000 children.  Funding from the Dater Foundation makes it possible to provide these programs to schools at affordable prices.  In addition,Dater funding was also used to provide performances free of charge at the eight Cincinnati C.I.S.E. schools as well as several other qualifying under-resourced schools.
