After-School and Family Programs
Notre Dame Urban Education Center offers innovative and unique community-centered collaborative programs. NDUEC in Covington is modeled on the evidence-based program 21st Century Community Learning Centers, and provides a safe, nurturing environment for students in grades 1-8. During the three-hour after school program, volunteers provide one-on-one tutoring, enrichment programs in dance, music, art and theater, and physical/recreational activities. Families of the children attending NDUEC receive support, life-skills training and coaching to more effectively support the academic success of their children. The After-School and Family Programs restore hope and promote a full human life experience for those who are served.

A Success Story … Michael Brown, student at St. Augustine School, Covington, KY, was enrolled in Notre Dame Urban Education program in 2010. Michael struggled with reading and writing. Volunteers at the Center worked diligently with him to reinforce the reading and writing skills as directed by his homeroom teacher and Title I instructor. Michael attributes his educational success to the help he received at Notre Dame Urban Education Center. Volunteers, Matt, Mike and Tom gave him the confidence he needed to believe in himself and overcome his struggle to read. Even though Michael attends Holy Cross High School, he continues to stop by on occasion to reconnect with his friends at the Center. He is looking forward to the day he will be a mentor for a student.
