Six Dater High Seniors Earn Dater Foundation Scholarships

Published Date: May 23, 2005

A highlight of the Senior Awards Dinner and Program at Gilbert A. Dater High School May 23 was the announcement of the six Charles H. Dater Foundation scholarship recipients for the Class of 2005.

Students and their parents beamed as Foundation President and Director David Olberding announced the recipients of $2,500 scholarship awards renewable annually as long as progress is made toward graduation.

The scholarship recipients and the colleges they plan to attend -- Jamar Brantley (University of Cincinnati, Arts & Sciences); Chaz Broach (University of Cincinnati, Arts & Sciences); Kari Frampton (University of Cincinnati, Nursing); Cierra Goodloe (University of Cincinnati, Business/Accounting); Michael Miller (Cincinnati State; English); and Jennifer Rankin (Mout St. Joseph College; Physical Therapy).

Joining Olberding at the dinner program were fellow Director Bruce Krone and Grants Coordinator Beth Broomall.

The scholarship awards continue a long relationship between the Dater Foundation and the schools that bear the name of Charles' grandfather Gilbert.

When Dater Junior High gave way to Dater Montessori, Principal Dr. Beverly Eby convinced the school district to establish a college preparatory school on the west side of Cincinnati. Original plans called for another name, but Eby enlisted the Foundation's support and the school was allowed to retain the Dater name.

The class of 2005 is the third graduating class at the high school, which is raising eyebrows in local education circles.
