Cincinnati, Ohio, September 18, 2014 -- The Charles H. Dater
Foundation awarded six grants totaling $58,500 in August, concluding its
2013-14 fiscal year having made 125 grants totaling $1,655,955. Over
$36 million in grants have been made to nearly 400 non-profit
organizations in the Foundation’s 29 years of existence.
Grants made in August:
Community Meal Center, $8,500. Food and supplies to provide hot, homemade
meals every Friday evening to homeless and low-income individuals and families
in Butler County and Hamilton County in a safe, inviting environment.
Friends of SCPA, $10,000. Mainstage production season in which every K-12 student at Cincinnati’s School for Creative and Performing Arts puts classroom learning into practical application under the guidance of trained artistic professionals.
Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati, $10,000. Children’s Basic Reading Program uses the Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory structured language technique provides assistance to children in grades one to five with severe reading difficulties or symptoms of dyslexia.
Living Hope Transitional Homes, $10,000. Life Skills program, providing housing for women with children and the education and support necessary to transition to independent living.
Over the Rhine Kitchen, $10,000. General operating support to provide meals five days a week to homeless and disadvantaged “guests” in two Cincinnati inner-city neighborhoods. Volunteers provide 50,000 hours support for the organization, including 42 church groups of various denominations.
St. Aloysius Orphanage, $10,000. Early childhood identification, intervention and prevention program at Cincinnati Public Schools’ Roll Hill and Winton Hills academies. The program targets pre-schoolers and also involves their parents and teachers.

Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati
area to carry out programs that benefit children and focus in the areas of
arts/culture, education, healthcare, social services and other community

The private foundation was established by fourth-generation Cincinnatian,
businessman and philanthropist Charles Dater (1912-1993) to ensure that his
resources would continue to fund worthwhile community programs after his
death. The foundation has made more than 2,400 grants totaling over $37
million since its inception in 1985.
